FIGURE 7 - (MODEL 124 SHOWN):
Remove the spring contact with harness and discard (arrow, Figure 7) and install a harness with positive-lock coupling and spring tab (1 and 2, Figure 6) whenever a defective radio chassis is replaced (refer to modification procedure).
FIGURE 8:
To connect a positive-lock coupling to a radio chassis, the bottom cover of the radio chassis must have a spade connector (arrow, Figure 8) at its rear center (when installed). If not so equipped, the bottom cover must be replaced.
FIGURE 9:
Note: When removing a radio chassis equipped with the positive-lock plug connection, the spring tab (2, Figure 9) is pushed against the console causing the positive-lock coupling to slide off the spade connector.
FIGURE 8:
Modification Procedure
1. Remove radio.
2. Remove spring contact with harness and discard.
3. Exchange the radio chassis bottom cover for one equipped with a spade connector at its rear center, if not already so equipped (Figure 8).
4. Affix installation note label directly below existing label reading "2 X 20 Watt..." to top cover of radio chassis.
Note: Exchange radios manufactured after 10/86 already have the new cover and label. For these radios, disregard steps 2 and 3.
FIGURE 11:
5. Push positive-lock plug (S 62/4, Figure 11) of the new harness onto spade connector (ground) and 5-pole plug onto radio chassis.
Caution: Connect positive-lock plug first, the 5-pole plug second.
6. Push 1-pole (X 40, Figure 11) of harness onto coupling of anti-theft alarm wiring harness, where previous spring contact was connected.
7. Make sure that the positive-lock plug is not disconnected when installing the radio chassis in the console.
8. Enter remark, "Positive-lock connection installed on radio antitheft alarm harness: (date)", in inside cover of vehicle's maintenance booklet.
