Remove/Install Instrument Cluster

Removal and installation of instrument cluster





Preceding work:
- Cover below instrument panel left removed. Service and Repair


Removal

1. Disconnect ground lead to battery.

2. Remove hose from left ventilation nozzle.

3. Unscrew speedometer cable from below.

Note: This must positively be done before pulling out the instrument cluster, even if the instrument cluster is only pulled out half, e.g. for replacing bulbs. The speedometer cable must not be kinked or stretched.

Caution! Place a cloth on the jacket tube in order to avoid scratches.

4. Pull out Instrument cluster (A1) with extractor hook 140 589 03 33 00.

Carefully insert extractor hook with the offset facing down between instrument cluster and instrument panel and turn by 900.

Carefully pull out extractor hook until it engages in the recess on the instrument cluster. The instrument cluster is held in place by five spring clips (arrows) attached to the instrument panel. When installing the instrument cluster, uniformly push into the instrument panel.

5. Disconnect electrical connections.

6. Unscrew line for oil pressure gauge (up to 10/84).

7. Remove instrument cluster (A1).

Installation

Installation is reverse of removal.
