If the refrigerant compressor must be renewed, e.g. due to blockage, always renew the pipe line on the refrigerant compressor, the expansion valve and the receiver dehydrator, since small particles (abrasion) of the refrigerant compressor may enter the pipe line. Subsequent damage may be expected if the pipe line and expansion valve are not renewed. Furthermore, check the function and direction of rotation (clockwise) of the auxiliary fan via the 16/20 bar and 100 °C switches.
Removing
Cover front fender.
Disconnect battery.
Remove alternator.
Pull plug from electromagnetic clutch.
Slacken screw (3).
Slacken tensioning screw (4) and remove V- belt (2).
Unscrew screws (6) on holder (8).
Unscrew screws (5) on holder of pipe line.
Unscrew bolts (arrow) at left and right of torsion bar and pull torsion bar downwards.
Unscrew screw (15) from pipe line.
Unscrew screws (9 to 11 and 14) on carrier for refrigerant compressor.
Remove refrigerant compressor (1) with carrier (12) downwards.
Unscrew nuts (17) and bolt (3) on holder (8).
Unscrew bolts (13 and 16) and remove refrigerant compressor from carrier (12).
If refrigerant compressor is renewed, refer to section "Checking oil level in refrigerant compressor" Checking Compressor Oil Level
When working on the electromagnetic clutch or shaft seal, seal the connections on the refrigerant compressor with the pressure-testing plate (109 589 00 25 00).
Installing
Check O-rings on refrigerant compressor
Screw carrier (12) to refrigerant compressor using bolts (13 and 16).
Mount holder (8) to carrier with bolt (3) and nuts (17).
Introduce refrigerant compressor with carrier from below and mount on engine block using screws (9 to 11 and 14).
Fit pipe line with screw (15).
Mount torsion bar at top with screws (arrow).
Mount holder (8) with screws (6).
Fit V-belt (2) and tension with tensioning screw (4).
Tighten screw (3).
Screw bolts (5) to holder for pipe line.
Attach plug to electromagnetic clutch.
Install alternator.
Connect battery.
Evacuate air conditioning system and refill.
!
If oil is filled into the refrigerant compressor, treat the compressor as if it were a new refrigerant compressor, i.e. run engine for at least 4 minutes at idle speed only during initial operation.
Check function of air conditioning system and check for leaks Testing and Inspection
