Checking Compressor Oil Level
In the event of repairs to the air conditioning system, the oil filling quantity must be corrected in accordance with paragraphs 1 to 3, depending on the extent of of damage.
1. Repairs or slow refrigerant loss
Topping up refrigerant:
Up to 400 g (no leak detected)
Do not add compressor oil.
Completely refill system owing to leak and renew receiver dehydrator
20 cc fresh oil
Renew refrigerant compressor and receiver dehydrator.
Drain oil from removed compressor and measure quantity. Also drain oil from new compressor
Fill new compressor with same amount as in removed compressor plus an additional 10 cc (for receiver dehydrator).(Drained oil from new compressor may be used.)
Repair refrigerant compressor (e.g. front shaft seal) and renew receiver dehydrator. Drain refrigerant for this (suction side).(Recycling)
Fill 20 cc fresh oil into compressor.
2. System suddenly empty (e.g. broken line or following an accident)
Renew defective part and receiver dehydrator as described under 1. and 3., including specified quantity of oil
Add additional 40 cc of compressor oil.
NOTE: Following evacuation (approx. 30 minutes) fill air conditioning system with approx. 200 g refrigerant R12 and check for leaks. Then drain refrigerant (recycling) and evacuate again (approx. 15 minutes). Then fill system with specified quantity of refrigerant and check function of air conditioning system.
3. Replacing parts
Renewing condenser
20 cc fresh oil
Renewing evaporator
40 cc fresh oil
Renewing receiver dehydrator
10 cc fresh oil
Suction line from evaporator to compressor and pressure line from compressor to condenser
10 cc fresh oil each
Checking and correcting oil level in refrigerant compressor
Refrigerant compressor
Remove and install. Service and Repair
If the refrigerant compressor is renewed
Drain the oil from the old refrigerant compressor by holding the refrigerant compressor with the pressure and suction openings pointing downwards and allow the oil to drain from the pressure and suction openings for approx. 10 minutes. This can be accelerated by rotating the drive shaft (clutch) several times.
From the new refrigerant compressor
Drain the oil in a similar way. Ascertain how much oil was drained from the original refrigerant compressor and the pipe line.Fill the same quantity of fresh oil into the new refrigerant compressor via the suction opening plus an additional 10 cc for the new receiver dehydrator.
In the event of repairs to the refrigerant compressor (e.g. front shaft seal) renew receiver dehydrator and fill an additional 20 cc of fresh oil into the compressor.
