Timing Chain Tensioner: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
- Remove drive belt.





- Loosen lower bolt (49) for alternator positioning.
- Remove upper bolt (51) and swing alternator outwards (arrow).





- Remove sealing plug (40), sealing ring (41), and compression ring (39).

CAUTION: Sealing plug is pressurized by compression spring.





- Remove chain tensioner housing (36) from the crankcase with a 17 mm stud driver insert.





- The chain tensioner must be stripped down before assembly. Press the setbolt (37) out of chain tensioner housing (36) in the direction of arrow. Clean parts and check for wear.

INSTALLATION




- Install chain tensioner housing (36) into crankcase. Torque to 15 Nm (11 ft lbs).





- Push setbolt (37) into the assembled chain tensioner housing.





- Install compression ring (39), new sealing ring (41), and sealing plug. Torque sealing plug to 70 Nm (52 ft lbs).





- Mount alternator. Torque mounting bolts (49 and 51) to 25 Nm (18.5 ft lbs).
- Install Poly V-belt.
- Check for leaks while engine is running.
