A/C - Prevent Drive Belt Slippage with Splash Guard

86mercedes3

TO: OUR MERCEDES-BENZ PASSENGER CAR DEALERS

DATE: November 1986 (supersedes MBNA 83/20, Oct. 1986) REF. NO. MBNA 83/20a

SUBJECT: INSTALLING SPLASH GUARDS TO PREVENT BELT SLIPPAGE MODEL 201.024 AS OF M.Y. 1985 WITH SINGLE BELT DRIVE

The A/C compressor has a speed sensor which can detect belt slippage, which can be caused by water splashing onto the single belt drive. When slippage is detected, a signal is sent to the control unit resulting in the A/C compressor clutch disengaging.

In case of customer complaints regarding the TOC system not functioning properly after driving through water, splash guards can be installed as described in Work Instructions #194 (issued with S.I. MBNA 83/20).

These splash guards were phased into production for Model Year 1987, 201.028 (190E 2.3) and 201.029 (190E 2.6) vehicles.
