Campaign - Install Base Plate Below Striker Eye

INSTALLING BASE PLATE BENEATH STRIKER EYE ON CENTER PILLAR MODEL 201

As of December 1984, the striker eye areas of the center pillar have been modified. On all vehicles manufactured since the start of production up to the chassis end numbers indicated below, a base plate must be installed beneath the striker eye on the center pillar during the vehicle's next scheduled maintenance or repair.

Procedure





1. Place stencil 201 589 07 23 on striker eye and mark outline of base plate with a pencil (Figure 1).

2. Unscrew striker eye.





3. Position base plate according to outline marked in step 1. Position striker eye so that it rests in the raised bead (arrows) of the base plate (Figure 2).

NOTE:
The striker eye and base plate must be attached with longer bolts M8 X 20. It is not necessary to adjust the doors.

4. Tighten bolts to 17 +/- 3 Nm.
