GF54.21-P-6051GM Component Description For The Steering Column Module Control Unit

Component Identification:

Location
The steering column module is located on the steering column.

Task
The steering column tube module is connected to the interior CAN and engine compartment CAN for data exchange. Communication takes place between the multifunction steering wheel and the steering column tube module via the steering LI

The steering column tube module has the following tasks:
^ Reading in of sensors, pickups and signals
^ Actuation of components
^ Output of signals

Reading in of sensors, pickups and signals
The input factors are read in with the following connections:
^ Direct line
^ Steering LIN
^ Engine compartment CAN

Direct line
The signals for the following components are read in directly:
- Steering angle sensor (N49)
- Combination switch (S4)
- DIRECT SELECT gear selector switch (S16/13)
- CC [TPM] push button (S40/4) (without code (494) USA version)
- CC [TPM] push button switch (S40) (with code (494) USA version)
- Steering column adjustment switch (S59) (with code (275) Memory package (driver seat, steering column, mirrors))
- Steering column adjustment/steering wheel heater switch (S59/1) (with code (275) Memory package (driver seat, steering column, mirrors) and code (443) Steering wheel heater)

The signals of the following components are only looped through the fanfare horns and airbag clock spring contact (A45):
- From restraint systems control unit (N2/7) to
- Driver airbag squib 1 (R12/13) and to
- Driver airbag squib 2 (R12/14)

Steering LIN
The signals for the following components are read in over the steering LIN:
- Left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110)
- Steering wheel gear shifter MINUS (S110/1)
- Right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)
- Steering wheel gear shifter PLUS (S111/1)

Engine compartment CAN
The steering column tube module uses the engine compartment CAN and receives signals from the following components:
- Instrument cluster (A1)
- Intelligent servo module for DIRECT SELECT (A80)
- Restraint systems control unit
- EIS [EZS] control unit (N73)
- Central gateway control unit (N93)

Actuation of components
Actuation takes place over the following connections:
^ Direct line
^ Steering LIN

Direct line
The following component is actuated directly:
- Yellow LED, variable speed limiter (S40/4v1) (except code (494) USA version)

Steering LIN
The following components are actuated via the steering LIN:
- Switch and controls illumination (circuit 58d) of components connected

Output of signals
The signals are output over the following connection:
^ Engine compartment CAN

Engine compartment CAN
Signals are sent to the following components over the engine compartment CAN:
- Intelligent servo module for DIRECT SELECT
- Xenon headlamp control unit (E1n1 and E2n1)
(Model 164 with code (615) Bi-xenon headlamp unit with integrated curve illumination or code (616) Bi-xenon headlamp unit with integrated asymmetrical curve illumination)
- CDI control unit (N3/9) (on diesel engine)
- ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) (on gasoline engine)
- ESP control unit (N47-5)
- Headlamp range adjustment control unit (N71)
(model 251 with code (615) Bi-xenon headlamp unit with integrated curve illumination or code (616) Bi-xenon headlamp unit with integrated asymmetrical curve illumination)
- EIS [EZS] control unit
- Central gateway control unit
