Antitheft alarm system (ATA), general
The ATA monitors all relevant inputs after locking the vehicle with the central locking (CL). If a change of status is detected at one of the monitored inputs, an acoustic and visual alarm is given. The acoustic alarm signals are output by the alarm siren (H3/1) (without code (494) USA version) or the alarm horn (H3) (with code (494) USA version). The visual alarm signals are output by the exterior lights. In addition the interior illumination is switched on. The rear SAM control unit (N10/8) is the master control unit for the ATA.

The ATA, when armed, monitors:
- Doors
- Liftgate
- Engine hood
- Alarm siren (without code (494) USA version)
- Position change of vehicle (tow-away protection) (without code (494) USA version, without code (460) Canada version or without code (498) Japan version)
- Motion in interior compartment (interior protection) with code (882) Interior monitoring (only with ATA))
- Rear side windows and rear window (glass breakage) (with code (882) Interior monitoring (only with ATA))

The ATA comprises the following subfunctions:
^ Activation of antitheft alarm
^ Anti-theft alarm system alarm triggering
^ Alarm actuation by panic switch (with code (763) Radio remote control with panic switch)
