Lowering the propeller shaft center support bearing (4) not only changes the articulation angle of the rear propeller shaft at the front relative to the rear propeller shaft at the rear (K4), but also changes the articulation angle of the transfer case relative to the rear propeller shaft at the front (K3) and the articulation angle of the rear propeller shaft at the rear relative to the rear axle differential (K5). For this reason, following a correction to the articulation angle a complete check measurement must always be performed.
1.1 Unscrew nuts (1), undo bolts (2), remove heat shield under the propeller shaft center support bearing (4) and then undo bolts on propeller shaft center support bearing (4), while securing the propeller shaft.
2.1 Fabricate a propeller shaft center support bearing spacer plate (3) of required thickness to match the size of the propeller shaft center support bearing (4).
Instead of the propeller shaft center support bearing spacer plate (3) commercially available washers with the appropriate bore diameter and thickness may also be used.
For each 1 mm plate thickness the articulation angle of the rear propeller shaft at the front relative to the rear propeller shaft at the rear (K4) is increased by approx. 0.13 degrees. In doing so:
^ the articulation angle of the transfer case relative to the rear propeller shaft at the front (K3) is reduced by approx. 0.7 degrees,
^ the articulation angle of the rear propeller shaft at the rear relative to the rear axle differential (K5) is reduced by approx. 0.7 degrees.
At a spacer plate thickness of more than 2 mm the bolt length of the propeller shaft center support bearing bolts (4) must be extended by 5 mm.
3.1 Insert propeller shaft center support bearing spacer plates (3) or washers between the frame floor assembly and propeller shaft center support bearing (4), mount the propeller shaft center support bearing (4) and tighten the bolts on the propeller shaft center support bearing (4).
4.1 Install heat shield under the propeller shaft center support bearing (4), fit bolts (2) and nuts (1).
