Reason for change

Complaint:
Fault message in instrument cluster on engine start "Power Steering Malfunction, Service Required". Assistance of the power steering is limited.

The following fault codes and KFC numbers are stored in the control unit of the electric power steering (N68).

The KFC numbers are listed in the control unit log for the electric power steering (N68) (see example in attachment).

Cause:
If the steering is operated during the starting procedure with a low battery charge level, the control unit monitor function can interpret this as implausible and signal a malfunction.

Remedy:
Perform software update of electric power steering (N68). Software available with Xentry version 07/12.
