Body - Automatic Liftgate Intermittently Doesn't Open

Automatic liftgate occasionally fails to open

Reason for change Complaint and Remedy revised

Complaint:
- When the liftgate is closed, with the liftgate lock in the unlocked condition, the liftgate occasionally fails to open automatically.

- The opening sequence of the liftgate control is sometimes aborted.

Cause:
Implausible position sensor signal

Remedy:
Remove pins from Hall sensor for drive unit on liftgate control (HKS) on plug connector 2 of control unit for liftgate control as follows:

1. Remove liftgate control unit (HKS) as per WIS documentation (see WIS references).
=> In model series X166 the trunk covering must not be removed!





2. Detach plug connector 2 (blue connector) from liftgate control (HKS) control unit (picture 1).





3. Remove Pin 1 (GY), Pin 2 (YE) and Pin 5 (BN) on plug connector 2 (picture 2).





4. Insulate individual pins using insulation tape (picture 3).





5. Secure removed lines on wiring harness (picture 4).





6. Connect plug connector 2 (blue plug connector) to liftgate control (HKS) control unit (picture 5).

7. Install liftgate control (HKS) control unit as per WIS documentation (see WIS references).

NOTE:

If the liftgate control (HKS) fails to function after removing the pins, perform initial startup and deletion of the fault memory for the liftgate control (HKS) control unit.
