Location

Task

The EWM control unit is the central control for influencing the automatic transmission by the driver. Selector lever positions "P", "R", "N" and "D" are transmitted mechanically to the automatic transmission via a Bowden cable. At the same time as this the selector lever position is recorded in the EWM control unit and transmitted to the Controller Area Network bus Class C (engine compartment) (CAN C). The following selector lever positions are possible
^ P Park lock and start position
^ R Reverse gear
^ N N Neutral position and starting position; no power flow takes place, the vehicle can move freely
^ D All 5 forward gears are available
^ ± Shift operations are only performed up to the gear displayed

Design

Selector lever positions "P", "R", "N" and "D" are transmitted mechanically to the automatic transmission via a Bowden cable. At the same time the selector lever position is recorded in the EWM control unit by means of Hall sensors. The reversing and parking lock locking solenoid is integrated in the EWM control unit. Selector lever position "P" can be unlocked to tow the vehicle. The release pin is located under the selector lever cover.

If an internal fault is present, the complete EWM control unit should be replaced. Separate parts cannot be repaired or replaced.
