SI54.10-S-0024A Service Information: Battery Maintenance

we would like to notify you Due to recent events about the requirement for proper care of vehicle batteries in vehicles which are not in operation.
In order to guarantee a maximum service of batteries and to avoid consequential damage, the batteries should be cared for as per the specification.

The batteries (on-board electrical system) have to be checked at the latest after an idle time of 3 weeks with connected batteries, related to the last check or the last charging time.
Checking battery voltage of on-board electrical system battery, as described in AR54.10-D-1129A.
The batteries should be charged at a battery voltage lower than 12.2 V. If it is necessary to charge the on-board electrical system battery, the additional battery also has to be charged.

In the event of anticipated idle time or laying up of the vehicle for longer than 3 weeks we recommend disconnecting the battery ground lines.
As a result a discharge of the batteries by no-load current consumers is prevented.
In order to counteract any self-discharge the batteries must be checked before commissioning the vehicle or charged - at the latest - after every 3 months.

Costs incurred for this cannot be settled through warranty invoicing.
