The guidelines listed below apply to the workshop specialist.

- In general the following should be observed for work on the electrical system:
The battery is disconnected for:
- welding
- Work which goes into the on-board electrical system in greater depth (e.g. retrofitting components or working on individual live cables which are not insulated)
- Work on the starter and alternator (if live cables are disconnected and connected)
- Removal and installation of transmission (starter hangs loose in mounting)
- Work on airbag units and emergency tensioning retractor units, on the airbag control unit and the Lateral acceleration sensors (windowbag)
- Removal of seat frame for driver seat
