Wheel Stud / Lug Nut: Service and Repair
AH40.10-N-1005-01A Notes on Lug Bolts
^ Always observe tightening torque for wheels. The rim could be distorted if the specified tightening torque is exceeded.
^ Do not damage wheel bolts/bolt thread, do not grease or oil. The bolts must run smoothly on the thread.
^ Contact surfaces on rims and hubs should be free of dirt, corrosion and should not be deformed.
^ Remove stickers and sticker residues from contact surfaces
^ Check radius seats on rims for visible deformation and wear.
^ Always replace deformed, worn or defective parts.
^ With nut-centered twin tires it is to be ensured that all the spherical rings are mounted on the lug bolts.
^ Under no circumstances use wheel bolts or wheel nuts not belonging to the rim as this would not guarantee firm seating of the rims.
^ Fit wheel bolts or wheel nuts by hand and tighten diagonally using a torque wrench.
^ With wheel nuts with pressure plate only lubricate the pairs of faces in contact between the pressure plate and wheel nut lightly. No grease or oil must get on the thread!
Retighten wheel bolts or wheel nuts after 50 km.
When using new or newly painted rims, the wheel bolts/nuts must additionally be tightened to the specified torque after 1000 to 5000 km.
