Due to recent events we would like to notify you that at temperatures less than -20 °C a multigrade engine oil SAE 10W-40 cannot be used.

The properties of engine oil can, e.g. significantly deteriorate through aging, soot and fuel insertion into the engine oil, so that the pour point increases and the flowability is greatly reduced.

As explained in document BB00.40-P-0224-01A, in the operator's manual and in the maintenance booklet, at temperatures less than -20 °C a multigrade engine oil SAE 0W-30, 0W-40, 5W-30 or 5W-40 must be used.

Engines 646.980 - 646.992 have been filled at the Mannheim plant since 17.8.2009 with the "LOWSPASH 50" break-in engine oil.

Please advise the customers of this situation.
