SI82.10-P-0001A Service Information: Notes On Fogged Headlamps Or Lamps In The Outer Area

NOTE:
The fogging up of the lenses of the main and additional headlights and fog lamps from inside is due to physical reasons and, provided no dirt residues have formed, is not an indication of damage.
Warranty claims because of such a complaint will not be accepted.

Moisture or variations in temperature can result in the headlights misting up in the following situations:
- Driving with lights on, cooling down in a warm and moist environment (e.g. garage), consequently operating the vehicle at a low ambient temperature.
The headlights may mist up both when the vehicle is stationary as well as at the start of a journey.

- Rapid cooling down (considerable temperature variation) of the previously operated headlights (vehicle washing plant, rain).
The headlights may mist up when the vehicle is stationary.

- Major variation in weather conditions when vehicle stationary.
The headlights may mist up both when the vehicle is stationary as well as at the start of a journey.

- Strong sun's rays combined with low ambient temperatures and vehicle operated previously in a warm and moist climate.
The headlights may mist up when the vehicle is stationary.

In all cases ventilation of the main and additional headlights and fog lamps when the vehicle is driven and also stationary ensures that any fogging which is present disappears again after a certain time.
Switching on the lights accelerates this process.

Model 639
Inspection of severely fogged lenses revealed that the housing cover was not correctly engaged at the inner catch or the retaining lugs were broken off.
