GF82.15-D-0002H Headlamp Cleaning System (HCS), Function

GF82.15-D-0002H Headlamp Cleaning System (HCS), Function

- with CODE (F46) Headlamp cleaning system

- with CODE (F46) Headlamp cleaning system
- with CODE (LG1) Xenon headlamps

Function requirements:
- Circuit 15R ON
- Rotary light switch (S1) in "standing lamp ON" or "driving lights ON" position
- Rotary light switch in "AUTO ON" position and rain/light sensor (B38/2) has detected "night"

The headlamp cleaning system (HCS [SRA]) system is activated using the windshield washer system switch (S144s3) which is read in over a discrete line by the SAM control unit (N10). The windshield washer system switch must be actuated for t = 100 ms. In response, the SAM control unit actuates the headlamp cleaning system pump (M5/2) for approx. t = 760 ms over the headlamp cleaning system relay (K2).

The headlamp cleaning system pump builds up pressure in the washer fluid line.
The water pressure acts against the return spring of each telescopic nozzle, which in turn is then extended whereupon the washer fluid is sprayed onto the left lamp unit (E1) and onto the right lamp unit (E2) or on vehicles with code (LG1) xenon headlamp onto the left XENON lamp unit (E1/6) and the right XENON lamp unit (E2/6).
After the duty cycle of approx. t = 760 ms, the pressure in the washer fluid line drops and the two telescopic nozzles are retracted to their initial position by the force of the spring.

An actuation of the windshield washer system switch while a headlamp cleaning cycle is in progress is not taken into consideration. The new cleaning cycle can be activated only after completion of the previous cleaning cycle.

Washer fluid supply
The HCS [SRA] system is supplied with washer fluid from the windshield washer fluid reservoir. The windshield washer fluid reservoir has a capacity of 7 l. When the windshield washer fluid reservoir is only 30 % full, the message "CHECK WASHER FLUID LEVEL!" is shown in the multifunction display of the instrument cluster (A1). When the windshield washer fluid reservoir is empty, the washer fluid level indicator lamp (A1e28) in the instrument cluster lights permanently.
