Location
The front AC housing is located centrally under the instrument panel.

Task
The front AC housing serves to distribute the fresh air or recirculated air required for ventilation of the vehicle to the respective air ducts and air outlet nozzles as a function of the temperature (temperature selection switch (S98s14)) and air distribution (air distribution switch (S98s8)) in the vehicle interior set on the AAC [KLA] control and operating unit (S98).

Design
The front AC housing consists of the following parts and flaps:
- Front and rear intake housing
- Left and right distributor housing
- Lower and upper air-flow housing
- Fresh air and recirculated air housing
- Pan with condensation water drain
- Front heater heat exchanger
- Front evaporator with front expansion valve
- Evaporator temperature sensor (B10/6)
- Defroster flap
- Footwell flap
- Mixed air and lock-up valve
- Fresh air and air recirculation flap
