AH42.45-N-0820-01A Notes For Replacing ABS/ESP Control Unit
Always observe the following notes when removing and installing control units:
Before dismantling the control unit, the working area on the hydraulic major assembly has to be cleaned, to avoid any malfunctions caused by contamination.
The control unit may only be touched on the outer edges to avoid any damage.
To prevent any fogging of the control unit's interior and the hydraulic major assembly, an appropriate waiting time must be adhered to prior to disassembly (e.g. for vehicles wet with rain). Only dry components may be installed in heated premises.
The control unit and hydraulic major assembly must not be blown out using compressed air, to avoid any damage.
To prevent damage, do not remove the control unit's seal.
The control unit must be carefully removed from and installed onto the hydraulic major assembly, in a straight line to avoid damaging the internal components.
The sealing surfaces of the hydraulic major assembly must be free of oil, grease, dust and silicon before assembly.
Do not use any sharp-edged or pointed tools for cleaning. Remove any contamination using a linen cloth and, where applicable, using plastic tools.
The use of chemical cleaners is not permitted.
If the sealing surface on the hydraulic major assembly exhibits any scores, scratches, cracks or recesses, then the hydraulic major assembly has to be replaced.
To prevent any damage, the sealing surface must not be processed.
New screws only may be used for fastening, to avoid any damage through incorrect tightening torque caused by aluminum abrasion.
Because of the deterioration in the screw-in thread each time a control unit is replaced, a change may only be made 5-times.
If the screw-in thread is damaged, then the hydraulic major assembly has to be replaced.
Screw-in threads must not be processed.
Only replace the add-on control unit if the control unit is defective. The add-on control unit is defective if it is damaged or if a control unit or relay fault was found during diagnosis.
We advise you to install only those add-on control units as supplied by the parts service, using the corresponding parts kit.
