GF82.61-D-0003-02H Audio 50 APS Switch On/Off Characteristics
- with CODE (EN8) Sound 50 APS radio

Activating the overall system
Position 0 "key in ignition"
In order to ensure a quicker switch-on process, only the databus systems are activated for t = 3 min by inserting the transmitter key into the EZS control unit (N73), in position 0 (terminal 15C ON). If the radio/radio with navigation (N87/1) is switched on using the button "ON", the automatic shutoff takes place after t = 30 min.

Position 1 "radio position"
Turning the transmitter key into position 1 (terminal 15R ON) switches on the radio/radio with navigation, provided that it was on before the transmitter key was last removed. It remains in operation until the transmitter key is removed again.

The function options are restricted to:
- Operation of the radio/radio with navigation
- Multifunction display in instrument cluster (A1)
- Operation via the multifunction steering wheel

Position 2 "ignition ON"
All the functions in the vehicle are operational by continuing to turn the transmitter key into position 2 (terminal 15 ON). The system which was active before it was last switched off (e.g. radio tuner) is switched on and the corresponding basic menu is displayed. If the radio/radio with navigation has been switched off for longer than t = 30 minutes, a warning menu appears with general instructions for using the system.

Position 3 "engine start"
When the transmitter key is in position 3 (terminal 50 ON), the engine is started. If a considerable voltage drop occurs while the engine is being started, the system switches itself off for the duration of the engine start; however, it switches itself on again after the on-board electrical system has stabilized.

Conduct when pushing "ON" button
The radio/radio with navigation can also be switched on with the transmitter key removed (terminal 15C OFF) by pressing the button "ON". All media-oriented system transport (most) functions are available for t = 30 min. The system switches off automatically once this time has elapsed.

Switching on and off characteristics
If a telephone call or an SMS is received, the telephone control unit (A34/14) (with code (EH3) Universal preinstallation for networked portable CTEL) is activated during the run-on time of the MOST components and initiates a wake-up pulse via MOST.

The MOST components are "woken up", the MOST system is thus operational. If the system has switched off after t = 30 min, the system can be switched on again by pressing the "ON" button. The cycle of t = 30 minutes then starts again.
The system is either switched off with the button "ON" or by removing the transmitter key (terminal 15C OFF). A phone call is not interrupted by removing the transmitter key (terminal 15C OFF). In this case, the MOST system is automatically switched off after the telephone call has been terminated. The radio/radio with navigation is switched off with "terminal 15C OFF". However, it is always in "standby mode" if the Controller Area Network bus class B (interior) (CAN-B) is active.

Switch off characteristics at undervoltage
The radio/radio with navigation constantly monitors the battery voltage. Depending on the voltage value the system performs as follows.

If the battery voltage drops to a value below 11.5 volts (battery warning range), but above 9.5 volts, a message appears in the instrument cluster's multifunction display, requesting that the engine be started. If the engine is not started up, yet another warning is issued after 3 minutes have elapsed indicating that only 10 s remain to switch the engine on before the system is run down. In this case, starting the engine serves to prevent the system shutting down automatically. If the system has shut down and the on-board voltage rises above 11.5 V again, the radio/radio with navigation will not be automatically switched on again.

After the radio/radio with navigation has been switched off, the system can be switched on again manually. The warning procedure then runs again, until the cause for the undervoltage is rectified.

Battery voltage below 9.5 V (undervoltage)
The radio/radio with navigation is automatically put in a defined standby condition, in which only the battery voltage is still monitored.

Additionally, the current operating condition is backed up. In this condition, the radio/radio with navigation cannot be operated nor addressed via STAR DIAGNOSIS. All communication with external components is stopped.

Switch off characteristics (run-on mode) in navigation mode
Exceptions if destination has not been reached:
- Up to t = 30 min the navigation remains active (e.g. when refueling). The navigation automatically continues once the vehicle is restarted.
- After t = 30 min up to a maximum of 2 hrs, the radio/radio with navigation remains in "Sleep mode". The route is re-calculated after restarting the vehicle and the navigation continued.
- After an interruption of t = 2 hrs up to a maximum 12 hrs in the destination-oriented navigation, this must be continued manually in the navigation main menu.
- If the vehicle is started after more than t = 12 h, the destination-oriented navigation must be restarted.
