GF80.57-D-5000H Electric Steering Lock Control Unit, Component Description

- except CODE (ZU7) National version for Canada

- except CODE (ZU8) National version for USA

N26/5 ELV control unit

Location
The ELV control module is located on the steering column.

Task
- Reading signals from EIS control unit (N73) via a discrete line.
- Feedback of acknowledgment and error messages to EIS control unit
- Control of locking bolts via locking solenoid

Arresting mechanism
Function requirements:
- Status "Circuit 15C OFF" is recognized.
- Vehicle stops.

The ELV control unit reads in the "Lock ELV" signal from the EIS [EZS] control unit. The electronic control circuitry integrated in to the ELV control unit evaluates this signal and actuates the locking bolts via the locking solenoid, locking the steering column.
Simultaneously an acknowledgment or fault message is returned to the EIS [EZS] control unit.

Release
Function requirements:
- "Circuit 15C ON" is recognized
- The transmitter key (A8/1) is recognized by the EIS [EZS] control unit.

The ELV control unit reads in the "Unlock ELV" signal from the EIS [EZS] control unit. The electronic control circuitry integrated in to the ELV control unit evaluates this signal and actuates the locking bolts via the locking solenoid, unlocking the steering column.
Simultaneously an acknowledgment or fault message is returned to the EIS [EZS] control unit.

Operating safety
The steering column is prevented from locking while driving by interrupting the power supply to the ELV control unit.

Design
The ELV control unit comprises the following components:
- Control electronics
- Locking solenoid with locking pin
