General
The Keyless Entry system is planned primarily for commercial use and is intended to increase convenience and time saving while loading or unloading the vehicle from the rear.
The system includes the following functions:
- Automatic opening or closing electric load compartment sliding door (E-LST), right, with code (T55) Electrical actuation for right sliding door
- Automatic opening or closing E-LST, left, with code (T56) Electrical actuation for left sliding door
- Automatically locking or unlocking vehicle
When the Keyless Entry system is activated, the E-LST is automatically unlocked or opened when the transmitter key (A8/1) approaches the vehicle (approx. 4 m).
When the transmitter key moves away from the vehicle (approx. 0.5 m), the E-LST is automatically closed if open and the vehicle is locked.
Wake-up/authentication
When approaching the vehicle, the transmitter key is woken up and identified by the vehicle.
Then the "Hash value" transmitted by the transmitter key for authentication to the EIS control module (N73) is relayed via the Controller Area Network bus, class B (interior) (CAN B).
If an authentic key is recognized, the system attempts to locate the transmitter key, otherwise all further activities are terminated and the system waits for the new transmitter key to be woken up.
Key locating
The Keyless Entry control unit (N69/5) receives a signal for locating the key from the following antennas:
- Keyless Entry right sliding door antenna (A2/101)
- Keyless Entry left sliding door antenna (A2/102)
- Keyless Entry driver door antenna (A2/103)
- Keyless Entry front passenger door antenna (A2/104)
- Keyless Entry load compartment antenna 1 (A2/105)
- Keyless Entry load compartment antenna 2 (A2/106)
On models 906.611/631/711/731 the Keyless Entry load compartment antenna 2 is omitted.
These antennas are located in the vehicle so that the current position of the transmitter key can be recognized by comparing the field strength (position in relation to vehicle).
By evaluating the chronological changes in the field strength it is also possible to detect motion of the transmitter key.
The following cases must be differentiated:
- Transmitter key outside of vehicle
Approaching vehicle from side in direction of E-LST
- Transmitter key outside of vehicle
Approaching vehicle from driver side in direction of driver door
- Transmitter key in load compartment
- Transmitter key in cab
- Distance between transmitter key and vehicle
Key locating is accomplished continuously as long as an authentic transmitter key is within range.
After an authentic transmitter key is recognized, the Keyless Entry control unit transmits a corresponding signal to the EIS control module via the CAN B, depending on the location of the key.
The result of key locating is decisive for calling up locking system functions as follows:
- Distance approx. 4 m, transmitter key outside of vehicle, approaching vehicle from side in direction of E-LST Opening E-LST (selective unlocking is accomplished automatically by the STL control unit (N69/7) or the STR control unit (N69/6))
- Distance approx. 0.5 m, transmitter key outside of vehicle, approaching vehicle from driver side in direction of driver door.
Selectively unlocking driver door
- Transmitter key in load compartment
Closing E-LST with Keyless Entry inhibited
- Transmitter key in EIS control unit
Closing E-LST
- Distance between transmitter key and vehicle, approx. 0.5 m
Locking E-LST, global locking
Unlocking or locking the vehicle with Keyless Entry system is actuated via the usual turn signal confirmation central locking (CL).
Activation/deactivation
The Keyless Entry system is activated or deactivated via a button on the left bottom control panel in the vicinity of the rotary light switch (S1) . When the system is activated, the function is indicated by a light emitting diode (LED) in the button.
As long as the authentic transmitter key is inserted in the EIS control module, the Keyless Entry system remains deactivated. However, locking the E-LST while driving is always possible.
