GF27.60-D-2010H Park Pawl Component Description
- TRANSMISSION 722.6
4 Park pawl gear
4a Park pawl mechanism
Location
The park pawl gear and park pawl mechanism are located in the rear part of the transmission housing.
Task
Secures the vehicle mechanically to prevent it from rolling in addition to the parking brake.
Body
4 Park pawl gear
38 Detent plate
40 Pilot bushing
41 Spring
42 Cone
43 Park detent
Function
In gear selector switch position "P" the cone slides between the park detent and the pilot bushing. As a result the park detent is pressed against the park pawl gear. If when the vehicle is stationary the tooth of the park detent does not enter tooth space, but remains on a tooth of the park pawl gear, then the cone is pre-compressed by the spring and is located in the standby position. When the park pawl gear turns further, the park detent engages in the next tooth gap.
To prevent damage due to misuse, the intervals between the tooth gaps are such that the park detent can only engage when the vehicle is stationary or crawling at low speed. If the vehicle rolls faster, the shape of the teeth prevents the parking lock pawl from engaging.
