GF27.19-D-4018H ETC [EGS] Control Unit, Component Description
- TRANSMISSION 722.6

N15/3 EGS control unit

Location

The ETC [EGS] control unit is located in the seat frame below the driver seat.

N15/3 EGS control unit
X11 Diagnostic socket 16-pin
Y3/6b1 Transmission oil temperature sensor
Y3/6n2 RPM sensor 2
Y3/6n3 RPM sensor 3
Y3/6s1 Starter lockout contact
Y3/6y1 Modulating pressure control solenoid valve
Y3/6y2 Shift pressure control solenoid valve
Y3/6y3 1-2 and 4-5 shift solenoid valve
Y3/6y4 3-4 shift solenoid valve
Y3/6y5 2-3 shift solenoid valve
Y3/6y6 Torque converter lockup PWM solenoid valve

The ETC [EGS] control unit determines the instantaneous operating condition of the vehicle and controls all gear change sequences taking into account shift comfort and the driving situation.

It receives operating data as internal transmission input signals from the:
^ Starter lockout contact
^ Transmission oil temperature sensor
^ RPM sensor 2
^ RPM sensor 3

The ETC [EGS] control unit takes over the actuation of the solenoid valves for modulating pressure, shift pressure and the gear change.

The pressure required is calculated from all input signals, adjusted to the torque to be transferred.

A data exchange via the Controller Area Network bus class C (engine compartment) (CAN C) takes place with the following control units:
^ Instrument cluster (A1)
^ CDI control unit (N3/20) (with OM 642) or CDI control unit (N3/21) (with OM 646)
^ ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/23) (with M 272)
^ EWM control unit (N15/5)
^ ESP control unit (N30/4)
^ EIS [EZS] control unit (N73)
^ SAM control unit (N10)
^ Backup camera control unit (N66/2), with code (FR7) preinstallation for backup assist
^ PSM control unit (N26/15), with code (ED5) Parameterizable special module (PSM)

This involves the processing of the following data from other systems:
CDI control unit (except M 272)
^ Shift curve offset, aids engine warm-up
^ Shift curve offset, dependent on load condition of diesel particulate filter (DPF), a heavily loaded DPF results in slightly lower upshift speed for full-load and kick-down upshifts
^ Specified gear, lower and upper limit, aids engine warm-up
^ Emergency operation of the common rail diesel injection (CDI), the pedal value is limited to approx. 20 %, the driveability of the vehicle is assured
^ Engine speed for slip calculation of torque converter lockup clutch and for the start of pressure calculation by the ETC [EGS] control unit
^ Engine oil temperature, shift limitation is canceled
^ Request for torque converter lockup clutch "OPEN" during heating up phase of engine, increase in engine speed
^ RPM limitation function active, adaptations in the ETC [EGS] control unit are switched off
^ Engine idle specified speed for the actuation of the torque converter lockup clutch
^ Requirement torque for Electronic Stability Program (Electronic- Stability-Program) (ESP), torque reduction or torque increase taking into account directional stability and road adhesion
^ Starting off in 1st gear, assists the warm-up of the engine
^ Kickdown
^ Pedal value
^ Idle

ME-SFI [ME] control unit (with M 272)
^ Active downshift for heating up the catalytic converter (TWC)
^ Specified gear, and lower/upper limit for heating up the catalytic converter
^ ESP requirement torque, torque reduction or torque increase taking into account directional stability and road adhesion
^ Shift curve offset for heating up the catalytic converter
^ Starting off in 1st gear for the heating up the catalytic converter
^ Request for torque converter lockup clutch "Open" in the heating up phase of the catalytic converter, to increase engine speed
^ Engine idle specified speed for the actuation of the torque converter lockup clutch
^ Engine oil temperature, shift limitation is canceled
^ Emergency operation of the ME fuel injection and ignition system (motor electronics) (ME), the pedal value is limited to approx. 20 %, the driveability of the vehicle is assured
^ RPM limitation function active, adaptations in the ETC [EGS] control unit are switched off
^ Engine speed for slip calculation of torque converter lockup clutch and for the start of pressure calculation by the ETC [EGS] control unit
^ Kickdown
^ Pedal value
^ Engine torque

EWM control unit
^ Selector lever position
^ Backup and parking lock locking solenoid (Y66/1) energized

ESP control unit
^ Vehicle lateral acceleration at center of gravity, adaptation of shift strategy, detection of dynamic driving style
^ Cruise control regulates, a special shift strategy for cruise control mode is stored in the ETC [EGS] control unit
^ ESP request shift into "N" (neutral), power flow interruption, transmission/rear axle
^ Signal from stop lamp switch (S9/1), change in shift strategy brake the vehicle, the electronic transmission control (EGS) shifts down earlier
^ Adjusted braking torque, change in shift strategy, brake the vehicle, the electronic transmission control shifts down earlier
^ Wheel speeds and direction of rotation, substitute values in the event of failure of RPM sensor 3
