Pulling hook
The play must be adjusted at test values below 0.04 mm.
No adjustment must be performed at test values between 0.04 mm and 0.08 mm.
The play must be adjusted at test values from 0.09 mm to 0.3 mm.
The thrust piece must be replaced at test values from 0.31 mm to 0.6 mm.
The steering gear must be replaced at test values above 0.61 mm.
Checking
1 Remove stop plug (1) with extraction hook.
Installation: Replace stop plug (1).
2 Insert dial indicator (3) in bracket (2).
Insert dial indicator (3) so that the stem protrudes approx. 1.5 mm on the underside of the bracket (2) for centering.
Use small dial indicator dia. 40 DIN 878 stem 23.5 long, probe 13 mm long, e.g. Hahn and Kolb.
3 Attach dial indicator (3) by hand and adjust point of origin.
Aid of helper required.
4 Attach torque wrench to axial joint.
5 Move torque wrench in the direction of the arrow and determine test value.
Do not exceed test torque in order to avoid damage to the steering rack and thrust piece.
Read off and note test value.
Adjust
6 Remove bracket (2) and remove dial indicator (3).
7 Tighten adjustment screw (4) to block.
Do not exceed torque of 55 to 60 Nm.
8 Loosen adjustment screw (4) 1/8 revolution.
9 Repeat test process, readjust play if necessary.
At test values below 0.04 mm and above 0.09 mm to 0.3 mm adjust the play by changing the release angle of the adjustment screw (4).
