N2/15 Highline airbag control unit

Location

The Highline airbag control unit is mounted on the center tunnel under the center console.

Task

- Self-test on "c. 15R ON" and continuous system monitoring during operation of vehicle
- Storing of up to 24 recognized faults in the fault memory,
- Actuation of SRS warning lamp (A1e22) via Controller Area Network bus class B (interior) (CAN-B)
- Prevention of inadvertent triggering during normal driving operation by means of a safety sensor additionally integrated in the Highline airbag control unit
- Output of the ignition pulses, while taking the corresponding parameters into account, to the following components:
- Driver emergency tensioning retractor squib (R12/1)
- Driver airbag squib (R12/3)
- Left Window bag squib (R12/16)
- Driver thorax bag squib (R12/32)
- Front passenger emergency tensioning retractor squib (R12/2)
- Front passenger airbag squib (R12/4)
- Right Window bag squib (R12/17)
- Front passenger thorax bag squib (R12/33)
- Center front passenger emergency tensioning retractor squib (R12/34), on vehicles with code (S23) Two-seater front passenger seat

- Recognition and evaluation of the accident depending on the type and severity, in the event of a head-on collision via the head-on collision sensor for driver and front passenger integrated in the Highline airbag control unit, in the event of a side impact via the driver Side bag sensor (A53) and the airbag system driver door pressure sensor (B48/7) as well as the front passenger Side bag sensor (A54) and the airbag system front passenger door pressure sensor (B48/8)
- Switching off the engine when the airbag is triggered via the ME control unit (N3/23), with engine 272, via the CDI control unit (N3/21), with engine 646, or via the CDI control unit (N3/20), with engine 642
- Ensuring of energy reserve for igniting the particular squibs when voltage supply is interrupted for t = 300 ms. For the protection of the occupants and emergency rescue service personnel, triggering is no longer possible t = 1 s at the latest after the battery has been disconnected (G1)
The plausibility of the frontal crash sensor for driver and front passenger integrated in the Highline airbag control unit is redundantly checked via a 2nd sensor integrated in the Highline airbag control unit.

Design

The Highline airbag control unit is accommodated in an aluminum housing. The housing and electrical connection are designed to exclude malfunctions.
