Moderately severe head-on collision

In the event of a head-on collision, the supplemental restraint system (SRS) detects a corresponding deceleration via the head-on collision sensor for driver and front passenger integrated in the Lowline airbag control unit (N2/14) or the Highline airbag control unit (N2/15). In this type of impact the seat belt restraining system function in combination with the emergency tensioning retractors ensures the best possible degree of passenger safety.

In this type of impact the airbag and seat belt system restraining functions in combination with the emergency tensioning retractors ensure the best possible degree of passenger safety.

In the process, the SRS sends a triggering pulse to the driver airbag squib (R12/3), the front passenger airbag squib (R12/4), the driver emergency tensioning retractor squib, the front passenger emergency tensioning retractor squib or the center front passenger emergency tensioning retractor squib via the following particular control unit:
- Lowline airbag control unit, except code (SH6) Thorax bag for driver (in seat backrest), except code (SH7) Thorax bag for driver and front passenger (in seat backrest) and except code (SH9) Window bag for driver and front passenger

The plausibility of the frontal crash sensor for driver and front passenger integrated in the Highline airbag control unit or Lowline airbag control unit is redundantly checked via a 2nd integrated sensor.
