M72/2 Inlet port shutoff positioner
Location
The intake port shutoff positioner is located between the engine's two cylinder heads downstream of the fuel main filter.
Task
The intake port shutoff positioner adjusts the flaps in the intake ports in the charge air manifold according to actuation by the CDI control unit (N3/30).

a Ground
b Supply voltage
c Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) signal
A Control lever (in rest position)
B Spring
C Potentiometer
D Direct current motor
E Integrated electronics
M72/2 Inlet port shutoff positioner
Function
The CDI control unit specifies the set value for the flap position by means of a PWM signal. The signal is evaluated by the integrated electronics. The DC motor pushes the adjusting lever into the corresponding position.
The potentiometer serves as an angle sensor, so that a specified/actual value comparison of the adjusting lever position takes place. In the event of any malfunction or break in the supply voltage, the spring acts on the control lever to return it to its rest position. The flaps are open in the reclining position.
