9. The selected oil type is confirmed by pressing the top part of the scroll forward/back button.
10. With engine 642, engine 646 or engine 651 with a long oil change interval (40,000 km) press the top part of the + and - button ("+") repeatedly until "Qual. 228.51" or for older instrument clusters "228.5" is selected in the display.
10. With engine 642, engine 646 or engine 651 with a short oil change interval (30,000 km) press the top part of the + and - button ("+") repeatedly until "Qual. 229.31" or for older instrument clusters "229.3" is selected in the display.
10. With engine 271 or engine 272 with a long oil change interval (30,000 km) press the top part of the + and - button ("+") repeatedly until "Qual. 229.5" is selected in the display.
10. With engine 271 or engine 272 with a short oil change interval (23,000 km) press the top part of the + and - button ("+") repeatedly until "Qual. 229.3" is selected in the display.
11. Press the bottom part of the scroll forward/back button once and by doing so select the highlighted oil type.

5. Then carry out steps 8 to 12 again.
The following data is stored when resetting the service scope:
- Current kilometer reading, rounded to 100 km
- Total of refill quantities in the last interval
- Remaining distance
- Remaining time
- Product of quality factors
- In 5 data records the data of the 5 most recent resets
- Operating time
- Idle time
- Service scope
The service scope should not be reset using Star Diagnosis as this would delete the driving conditions.
Calling up workshop level
The workshop level shown on the instrument cluster display is called up as follows:
1. Activate the status "circuit 15R ON" (radio position).
2. Press and hold the reset button for 30 s until a short warning tone is heard.
- Then press the bottom part of the system selection button.

The current engine oil quantity shown on the instrument cluster display is called up as follows:
1. Call up the workshop level as described.
2. Then select the "Oil level reading" menu by pressing the top or bottom part of the scroll forward/back button.
Engine oil level measurement, with engine 642, with engine 646 or with engine 651
An engine oil level measurement can only be performed with status "circuit 61 OFF" and only after expiry of a waiting time. The waiting time, after which the status "circuit 61 OFF" is pending, is dependent on the engine oil temperature in the following manner:
- Up to 20 °C the waiting time is 30 min.
- As of 60 °C the waiting time is 1 min.
- At temperatures between 20 and 60 °C the waiting time adopts corresponding intermediate values.
The engine oil level measurement is carried out using the engine oil level button.
If the driver attempts to call up the engine oil level with the status "circuit 61 ON" being active, then the instrument cluster display shows the oil can symbol and the message "Engine oil level - Not with engine running.".
Press the engine oil level button.
The engine oil level measurement is indicated by the appearance of the oil can symbol and the message "Engine oil level measurement running." in the display.
Upon completion of the engine oil level measurement, one of the following messages may appear alongside the oil can symbol in the display:
- "Engine oil level OK", the engine oil level is OK
- "Top up engine oil 1.0 l.", "Top up engine oil 1.5 l." or "Top up engine oil 2.0 l.", the engine oil level is too low
- "Engine oil level - Reduce oil level.", the engine oil level is too high
- "Engine oil level - Please switch ignition on"
- "Observe waiting time"
If there is a fault in the measuring system, such as a fault in one of the components below, the oil can symbol and the message "Engine oil level - Stop, Engine off." or "Oil sensor - Visit workshop." are displayed on the screen 30 s after the fault occurred:
- Engine oil sensor (B40), with engine 642
- Engine oil sensor (B40/5), with engine 646
- Engine oil level sensor (B40/6) with integrated engine oil temperature sensor (B40/9), with engine 651
For diagnosis purposes, the respective engine control unit below must also be read out using Star Diagnosis:
- CDI control unit (N3/20), with engine 642
- CDI control unit (N3/21), with engine 646
- CDI control unit (N3/28), with engine 651
