Parts, which have fallen into the timing case recess or the cylinder head must be removed in order to avoid damage to the engine.
1 Cover timing case recess and cylinder head with clean rag.
2 Connect new timing chain (1) and old timing chain (2) with the assembly connecting link (3), the outer assembly plate (4) and the assembly locking element (5).
The bores (arrow) of the new timing chain (1) must point outwards.
3 Remove rag from timing case recess and cylinder head.
Otherwise when cranking the engine, this can be drawn into the timing case recess.
4 Slowly turn engine at center bolt of the crankshaft in the direction of engine rotation until the ends of the new control chain (1) can be connected.
During the pulling in procedure ensure that the old timing chain (2) and the new timing chain (1) is freely movable and cannot jam. The old timing chains (2) and new timing chains (1) are always held by hold-down device (6) in mesh with camshaft sprockets.
5 Cover timing case recess and cylinder head with clean rag.
6 Remove assembly locking element (5), outer assembly plate (4), assembly connecting link (3) and old timing chain (2).
The engine does not start with the assembly locking element (5), the outer assembly plate (4) and the assembly connecting link (3) otherwise this can lead to engine damage. They are just assembly helpers and are not suitable for a running engine.
