Complaint:
Grinding noise at rear axle brake.

Cause:

1. Sluggish brake caliper guide.

2. Dirt reaches the running surface of the brake piston due to a defective piston boot. The brake piston cannot return to its starting position.

Remedy:

1. Check boots of guide pins in brake caliper support for correct seating.

2. Check boots of guide pins for leaks.

Pull out the guide pins, the boot should sink in due to the vacuum.

3. Guide pins must be able to move freely.

4. Check brake piston boot for damage.

If tests 1-3 are not passed, replace brake caliper support.

If test 4 is not passed, replace brake caliper.

Note:
When replacing the brake pads, make sure that the piston boots are folded back properly otherwise they will be damaged when the brake caliper is folded closed.
