Radio and CD

Radio mode, function
The antenna amplifier (A2/18) receives the frequency-modulated and amplitude-modulated high-frequency (HF) signals, filters the frequencies of the radio frequency bands and amplifies them. The amplified HF signals are subsequently sent to the radio receiver via a screened line. The radio receiver is included in the audio gateway, which is integrated into the radio/radio with navigation (N87/1). The radio receiver demodulates the HF signals, i.e. it separates the useful information from the carrier signal. The integrated audio gateway amplifies the audio signals. There are 10 radio station presets for each frequency band. It is possible to tune to the stations in the following ways:
- Tuning using station preset
- Tuning by program type list
- Tuning via frequency list
- Tuning by station search
- Tuning by station search, using multifunction steering wheel (MFL)
- Tuning using auto-store memory
- Tuning by search (the stations of a waveband are played for 8 seconds)
- Manual tuning
- Tuning by manual frequency input (via the control panel of the radio/radio with navigation)

The following functions displayed on the display of the radio/radio with navigation are also available:
- Noise reduction
- Radio Data System (RDS), function

"RDS" function
As well as the radio program, many radio stations also transmit non-audible, digital information such as the station name, the program type and traffic program identification. This information is evaluated by the radio/radio with navigation and shown on the display if the following prerequisites are met:
- The RDS function is activated.
- A radio station with RDS reception is tuned in.

2-receiver technology function
Once the radio/radio with navigation is switched on a 2nd (integral) radio receiver in the radio/radio with navigation automatically generates a list of the received FM stations. This list is constantly updated during operation and appears in alphabetical order when the "FM station list" menu is opened. The stations which are displayed can be activated by selecting and confirming.

The station list is only available when the "RDS" function is activated. If reception problems occur while driving, the radio/ radio with navigation tries to receive the selected station on an alternative frequency with the aid of the second receiver and then tries to switch over accordingly if reception is improved.

CD player operation, function
Audio CDs can be played using the integrated CD drive of the radio/ radio with navigation or using the CD changer (A2/6) (with code (EP5) CD changer). The CD changer has an automatic feed device for 6 CDs. They are loaded centrally via an input slot. Each CD can be loaded and removed individually with the 6 selection buttons on the unit. The integrated CD drive and the CD changer are operated via the keypad on the radio/radio with navigation.

Only 12 cm CDs can be placed in the CD changer.

The control signals of the radio/radio with navigation as well as the audio data of the CD changer are transmitted via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST).
The signals are processed and amplified by the radio/radio with navigation. The CD changer is actuated in the "Audio, CD" menu of the radio/radio with navigation. After placing an audio CD into the automatically retracting tray of the CD-changer, the following functions are available to the user:
- Selection of audio CD
- Select track
- "Search forwards" and "Search backwards"
- Current playback time of track or audio CD
- Programming function

The following functions are possible:
- Track skip
The music tracks are played for 8 seconds. At the end of the audio CD, the CD changer automatically switches to the mode last set.

- Random function
All the tracks of an audio CD are played according to the random principle. Once all the tracks have been played once, the next audio CD is automatically loaded and the random function continues. The random function continues until it is deactivated.

- Repeat function
Either one track or all tracks on an audio CD are repeated. All the tracks of all the audio CDs in the magazine can also be repeated.

The following possibilities are available in the menu "Adjustments":
- Normal track function
- Repeat track
- Repeat audio CD
- Select a track sequence

Allocate a CD title to an audio CD
Each audio CD contains a permanently stored table of contents (TOC record). Thereby, it is possible to automatically recognize this CD track after the one-time user allocation of the title, even if the audio CD is inserted into another slot.
The table of contents (TOC record) also contains information on the number of titles on an audio CD and the total audio CD playing time.
