GF82.70-D-0004H Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI), Function

- with CODE (EH3) Universal preinstallation for networked portable CTEL

Function requirements:
- No overvoltage or undervoltage
- Enabled Subscriber identification module (SIM) card
- Correct personal identification number (PIN) entry and successful log-in

With the Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI [UHI]) system, all calls are made using the respective portable CTEL exclusively via the hands-free system.

With the UPCI [UHI] system it is possible to operate different portable CTELs, such as Nokia, Siemens or Motorola in the vehicle.
Only the particular mobile phone holder (A34/17) has to be replaced to do this.

The UPCI system consists of the following components:
- Mobile phone holder
- Telephone control unit (A34/14)
- FM/AM amplifier (A2/18)
- Portable cellular telephone
- Handsfree microphone (B25)
- Contact plate for mobile phone bracket (A34/7)

In addition, depending on vehicle equipment the following audio devices may be installed:
- Radio/radio with navigation (N87/1) with code (EF9) Sound 20 radio
- Radio/radio with navigation with code (EN4) COMAND with TMC interface
- Radio/radio with navigation with code (EN8) Sound 50 APS radio

The particular portable CTEL is connected to the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) of the vehicle via the mobile phone holder.

The UPCI system supports the following functions:
- SIM check after a fault and a lock status
- PIN entry using the keypad in the control panel of the respective audio device installed as well as via the telephone buttons of the respective portable CTEL
- Personal Unblocking Key (PUK) entry using telephone buttons of the respective portable CTEL
- Establishing of telephone connections in hands-free mode
- Display of phone numbers and caller ID on the display of the respective portable CTEL, in the display (A1p1) of the instrument cluster (A1) and on the display of the respective audio device installed
- Display of provider names (e.g. "T-D1", "E-Plus"), reception status, roaming status and call duration on display of respectively installed audio device
- Display of stored telephone numbers from the respective portable CTEL on the display of the respective audio device installed and in the instrument cluster as well as the selection of stored telephone numbers using the + and - button (S110s1) and accept/terminate phone call button (S110s3)

The UPCI system is activated by one of the following actions:
- By pressing the On/Off button of the respective portable CTEL
- Automatically by a wake-up pulse over the MOST, which is initiated by the respectively installed audio device
- Activation of "circuit 15R ON" status

The UPCI system is deactivated by one of the following actions:
- By pressing the On/Off button of the respective portable CTEL
- Automatically following expiry of the individually adjustable run-on time of the respective portable CTEL
- After removing the transmitter key (A8/1) and following expiry of the individually adjustable run-on time of the respective portable CTEL

A telephone call can be accepted in one of the following ways:
- By pressing the "Accept call" button on the respective portable CTEL.
- Via the accept/terminate phone call button on the multifunction steering wheel (MFL)
- Pressing the "Accept call" button in the control panel of the respectively installed audio device

A telephone call can be terminated in one of the following ways:
- By pressing the "Terminate phone call" button on the respective portable CTEL
- Via the accept/terminate phone call button on the MFL
- Pressing the "Terminate call" button in the control panel of the respectively installed audio device

Voice input takes place via the hands-free system microphone (a microphone is installed).

To this end, the particular portable CTEL must be inserted in the mobile phone holder.

To ensure user voice input with as little interference as possible using the one microphone of the hands-free system microphone, the volume of each installed and activated audio device is muted in the event of an incoming call.
