Task
- Remote control for central locking (CL)
- Transmitting drive authorization data to EIS control unit (N73).
- On vehicles with code (FZ8) Comfort opening/closing with infrared (IR) remote control, comfort functions

Design
The transmitter key (A8/1) consists of an electronic key and a mechanical key.
The electronic key comprises:
- Radio transmitter
- One computer chip
- 2 button cell batteries
- Battery and function indicator lamp
- Pushbutton
- 2 or 3 transmitter buttons
- IR transmitter/receiver

The mechanical key can be unlocked and removed with the unlocking slider.

Function
By simultaneously pressing the following transmitter buttons for longer than 5 s, it is possible to set the function of the transmitter key from "global" to "selective and vice versa:
- "Lock" transmitter button
- "Unlock" transmitter button

The battery and function indicator lamp flashes twice to confirm the modified setting ("global" or "selective").

The following functions are possible with the "global" setting:
- All doors are locked by pressing the "Lock" transmitter button once.
- All doors are unlocked by pressing the "Unlock" transmitter button once.

On model 906.2 only "global" locking and unlocking is possible.

The following functions are possible with the "selective" setting:
- All doors are locked by pressing the "Lock" transmitter button once.
- By pressing the "Unlock" transmitter button, the driver door (model 906.1/7) or the driver door and the front passenger door (model 906.6) are unlocked.
- All doors are unlocked by pressing twice the "Unlock" transmitter button.

Comfort function "opening"
The following function requirements must be met:
- Vehicle unlocked
- Release of the actuators is transmitted by the EIS control unit to the Controller Area Network bus class B (passenger compartment) (CAN-B).

A summer opening function can be started via the IR channel by pressing the "Unlock" transmitter button for longer than 1 s.

The following actuators are actuated via CAN-B in event of a summer opening:
- Driver door power window motor (M10/1)
- Front passenger door power window motor (M10/2)
- Front sliding/tilting roof motor (M12m1) with code (D27) Electric glass tilting/sliding roof
- Rear tilting/sliding roof motor (M12/1m1), with code (D24) Electric glass tilting/sliding in passenger compartment
- Left vent window motor (M21/8), with code (W32) Electric rear vent window in passenger compartment
- Right vent window motor (M21/9), with code (W32) Electric rear vent window in passenger compartment

Comfort function "closing"
The following function requirements must be met:
- All doors closed.
- Vehicle completely locked.

The following actuators can be actuated b via CAN-y pressing the "Lock" transmitter button for longer than 1 s B:
- Driver door power window motor
- Front passenger door power window motor
- Front tilting/sliding roof motor , with code (D27) Electric glass tilting/sliding roof
- Rear tilting/sliding roof motor, with code (D24) Electric glass tilting/sliding roof in passenger compartment
- Left vent window motor, with code (W32) Electric vent windows in rear passenger compartment
- Right vent window motor, with code (W32) Electric vent windows in rear passenger compartment

The actuators are opened and closed only as long as the IR signal is recognized. If a door is opened during the Comfort "closing" function, the function is interrupted.

Sliding door and rear door (only with 3 buttons)
The sliding doors and rear-end doors can be unlocked with the "Unlock sliding door, rear-end door and open/close sliding door" transmitter button.

This function is not dependent on the "global" or "selective" setting on the transmitter key.

Electric sliding doors (only with 3 buttons), with code (T55) Electrical actuation for right sliding door or with code (T56) Electrical actuation for left sliding door
With the transmitter button "Unlock sliding door, rear-end door and open/close sliding door", the corresponding sliding door can be opened or closed.

Drive authorization
After inserting the transmitter key into the EIS [EZS] control unit, it is supplied with power via an induction coil. Data exchange takes place to verify the drive authorization status.

Battery and function indicator lamp
When the "Lock" transmitter button or the "Unlock" transmitter button is actuated, the battery and function indicator lamp comes on momentarily and indicates the proper state of the battery (2 button cells) in the transmitter key and that they are ready for operation.

Locking and unlocking rear doors (only with 3 buttons) and corresponding doors
By pressing the "Lock" transmitter button or "Unlock" transmitter button,a radio signal is transmitted by the transmitter key. These signals are checked for validity and the rear doors (only with 3 buttons) or corresponding doors are then locked or unlocked.

Mechanical key
The mechanical key can be removed from the transmitter key after actuating the sliding lock. When unlocking or locking the vehicle with the mechanical key, the CL is not actuated (only the corresponding door is opened).
The anti-theft alarm (ATA) is not deactivated.

The ATA is only installed on the following versions:
- With code (FZ5) Anti-theft alarm system (ATA)
- With code (FZ4) Anti-theft alarm system with interior protection and tow-away protection
- With code (FY1) ATA 2 with interior protection, tow-away protection and battery-operated horn
