GF82.85-D-2016HA Communications, Function

- with CODE (EN8) Sound 50 APS radio
- with CODE (EH3) Universal preinstallation for networked portable CTEL Telephone and SMS

The telephone control unit (A34/14) allows portable CTELs from different manufacturers (e.g. Siemens, Motorola, Nokia) to be operated in the vehicle. The system installed in the vehicle is able to communicate with various portable CTELs. It is only necessary to install the corresponding mobile phone holder (A34/17) required for the portable CTEL on the Universal Portable CTEL Interface contact plate.

Telephone operation
The telephone system can be operated as follows:
- Directly on the radio/radio with navigation (N87/1)
- Via the multifunction steering wheel (MFL) in combination with the multifunction display of the instrument cluster (A1)

Information can be displayed via the
- Portable CTEL display
- Multifunction display of the instrument cluster
- Display of the radio/radio with navigation

The volume for telephone mode can be adjusted separately.

After a request made via the radio/radio with navigation, the mobile phone signals are transmitted and received using the antenna amplifier (A2/18). The portable CTEL is illustrated by a symbol, if it is operational, on the display of the radio/radio with navigation.
Similarly, the reception field strength of the portable CTEL is displayed after it is plugged into the mobile phone holder. All control signals and useful signals (e.g. sound signals with hands-free system activated) are transmitted via the media-oriented system transport (MOST).

The portable CTEL requires an interface, the telephone control unit, for communicating with the MOST subscribers.

The battery of the portable CTEL is charged through the telephone control unit. The battery is charged automatically as soon as the telephone control unit is active, irrespective of whether the portable CTEL is switched on or off. The radio/radio with navigation has the following telephone functions:
- Automatic disabling of telephone card when the personal identification number is entered incorrectly 3 times.
- Direct dialling of the telephone number via the numerical keypad, display of the name of the person called (if the number entered is known)
- Speed-dialing of the first 10 memory locations by pressing one key only or dialing all other memory locations by entering the 3-digit memory location number
- Display of caller's number (if number transmitted)
- Display of name, if telephone number is known
- Read text messages
- Telephone book processing
- Notebook processing
- Select from memory list using
- memory location numbers
- Names (alphabetic)
- List of last 10 numbers dialed

Writing and editing text messages
In combination with the telephone control unit, in the Service main menu the "Mail" button leads to the menu for composing, sending and organizing SMS. The following possibilities exist here:
- Call up inbox
- Call up outbox
- Call up drafts box
- Create new messages
- Select mail settings

The user can enter characters using the predictive speller function of the portable CTEL or via the keypad of the radio/radio with navigation.
These functions are also used for sending SMS messages; a receiver can be specified or dialed from the telephone book.

Data safety, SMS memory
If the battery voltage drops below 9.5 V, the characters remain in the memory of the radio/radio with navigation. However, it is possible for up to 4 characters to be lost. When the radio/radio with navigation is shut off normally the characters are not lost.
