GF82.85-D-0003H Cockpit Management and Data System (COMAND), Function
GF82.85-D-0003H Cockpit Management And Data System (COMAND), Function
- with CODE (EN4) COMAND with TMC interface
The following systems can be operated centrally with the aid of the radio/radio with navigation (N87/1):
- Integrated radio
- Integrated DVD ROM disk drive
- Navigation with dynamic route guidance
- CD changer (A2/6) with code (EP5) CD changer
- Telephone with code (EH3) Universal preinstallation for networked portable CTEL
The audio signals of a Walkman or an MP3 player can be transmitted to the radio/radio with navigation via an electrical connection (audio AUX) in the glove box.
The radio/radio with navigation is the central component of the COMAND system. It has an LCD (liquid crystal display) color display for showing information such as operating menus and map data for navigation.
It is operated by means of preset function keys and rotary switches as well as menu-assisted on the LCD color display. Some functions can also be activated with the aid of the pushbuttons on the multifunction steering wheel (MFL). It should be noted that all button operations on the MFL are processed first by the instrument cluster (A1). The instrument cluster links the incoming button operations with the current menu setting on the multifunction display and transmits a corresponding Controller Area Network (databus/CAN bus) message to the radio/radio with navigation if necessary.
COMAND data bus system
The digital components of the radio/radio with navigation are linked to each other by a databus system. The databus system is used to transmit data (control commands and useful information) between the various system components.
The individual components operate with different data formats and have different requirements on transfer rate and safety.
Therefore, the following different databus systems are installed:
- Media Oriented System Transport (MOST)
Data is exchanged via MOST between the CD changer and the telephone system.
- Controller area network bus class B (interior compartment) (CAN B)
The CAN-B is used for data exchange with the instrument cluster. In this way, the instrument cluster receives from the radio/radio with navigation the audio, telephone, and navigation data for the multifunction display in the instrument cluster as well as the time via this bus.
