GF82.85-D-0003-07H Cockpit Management And Data System (COMAND) Switch On/Off Behavior
- with CODE (EN4) COMAND with TMC interface

Activating navigation
If the driver door is opened the navigation is activated automatically via the controller area network bus class B (interior) (CAN-B) . This process can be accompanied, when a digital versatile disk (DVD) is inserted, by a faintly audible noise of the DVD ROM disk drive that is integrated in the radio/radio with navigation (N87/1). The LCD (liquid crystal display) color display of the radio/radio with navigation remains switched off. If following this, no status change occurs at the EZS control unit (N73), the navigation system remains activated for t = 30 min.

Activating the overall system
All other subsystems are activated when the transmitter key is inserted into the EZS control unit in position 0 (terminal 15C ON).
The LCD color display is switched on in position 1 (terminal 15R ON) of the transmitter key. However, this only applies if the radio/radio with navigation was switched on before the key was last removed.
The system which was active before it was last switched off (e.g. radio tuner) is switched on and the corresponding basic menu is displayed. If the radio/radio with navigation has been switched off for longer than t = 30 minutes, then a warning appears with general instructions for using the system.

Conduct when pushing "ON" button
The radio/radio with navigation can also be switched on with the transmitter key removed by pressing the button "ON". All functions are then available for t = 30 minutes
The radio/radio with navigation switches off automatically once 30 minutes have elapsed.
If switching off has occurred after t = 30 min., the system can be switched on again by pressing the "ON" button; the run-on time of t = 30 min. starts again.

In navigation mode following the final destination-oriented navigation action (destination reached), the position map is displayed again. The unit switches itself off completely after 1 min.

Switch off characteristics
The radio/radio with navigation is switched off when the transmitter key is removed "terminal 15C OFF". The run-on time of t = 30 min (standby) of the navigation system starts. During the run-on time, all the important localizing parameters remain stored. The run-on time of the audio systems is set during the installation of the radio/radio with navigation in the plant. The radio/radio with navigation is always on "Stand-by" when CAN-B is active.

Switch off characteristics at undervoltage
The radio/radio with navigation constantly monitors the battery voltage. Depending on the voltage value the system will act as follows:
If the battery voltage drops below 11.5 volts (battery warning range), but above 9.5 volts, a message appears on the LCD color display which requests that the engine be started. If the engine is not started up, yet another warning is issued after 3 minutes have elapsed indicating that only 10 s remain to switch the engine on before the system is run down. In this case switching on the engine prevents the system from being automatically shut down. If the system has shut down and the voltage rises again above 11.5 V, the radio/radio with navigation will not be automatically switched on again.

If a system has been shut down it can still be switched back on again manually. The warning procedure then ensues for as long as the fault is not eliminated.

Battery voltage below 9.5 V (undervoltage)
The radio/radio with navigation is automatically put in a defined standby condition, in which only the battery voltage is still monitored.
In addition to this the current operating status is stored. In this condition, the radio/radio with navigation cannot be operated nor addressed via STAR DIAGNOSIS. Communication with external components does not take place.

Exceptions to switch-off behavior (run-on mode) if destination not reached:
- Navigation remains active up to t = 30 min. (e.g. refueling stop). The navigation continues once the vehicle is restarted.
- After t = 30 min up to a maximum of 2 hrs, the radio/radio with navigation remains in "Sleep mode". The route is calculated again after the vehicle is restarted and the navigation continued.
- After t = 2 hrs., a request is displayed when the vehicle is restarted asking if the route is to be calculated again.
"YES" = Route is calculated again.
"NO" = Navigation will cease.
