General
The rear entertainment system is switched on or off by pressing the "ON/OFF" control on the remote control with "Circuit 30 ON" and with the telematics CAN active (a vehicle door is opened) for t = 10 min or with "Circuit 15 ON".
The last applications stored in the respective menu items in the left rear display (A40/5) or right rear display (A40/6) are then shown on the respective display.

The following menu items are available to the rear passenger(s):
- "Disc"
- "TV", with code (863) Digital/analog TV tuner
- "AUX"
- "System"

When the "ON/OFF" control on the remote control is actuated, the position of the "Roller" control determines whether the left rear display or right rear display is switched on/off.

The "Roller" control on the remote control is used to select one of the respective displays so that the menu items, menus and submenus of the display can be controlled using the following controls on the remote control:
- "Roller":
- Select respective display

- "4-zone control with OK":
- Move around screen of respective display in 4 directions and select menus or submenus with "OK".

- "Back":
- Move back through menu levels

- "Mute":
- Mute the selected audio source (disk, TV (with code (863) Digital/analog TV tuner) or AUX) for headphones connected via cable

- Skip forward or back when selecting tracks in "Disk" menu item or when selecting TV channel in "TV" menu item, with code (863) Digital/analog TV tuner

- "12-key keypad":
- Alphanumeric input

The respective settings and controls for the "Disk", "TV" (with code (863) Digital/analog TV tuner) and "AUX" menu items and their menus and submenus are described in separate documents.

The rear passenger(s) can perform additional adjustments/control operations in the "System" menu item after the display is switched on.
The "Rear entertainment switch on/off behavior and system settings" function consists of the following subfunctions:
^ Switch on via remote control function sequence
^ Additional settings in "System" menu item via remote control function sequence
^ Switch off via remote control function sequence
^ Automatic switch off by removing transmitter key function sequence (A8/1) (time out time)

Switch on via remote control function sequence
The switch-on signal from the "ON/OFF" control on the remote control and the position of the "Roller" control on the remote control are transmitted to the respective display via the infrared (IR) interface on the remote control.
The respective display forwards the switch-on signal to the DVD player (A40/4) via telematics CAN.
At the same time, the respective display generates the audio and picture signals for the corporate identity (CI) screen for approx. 6 s.
The respective display then shows the applications last stored under the respective menu items.

Additional settings in "System" menu item via remote control function sequence
Via the "System" menu item in the application field on the screen of the respective display, the rear passenger(s) can access the associated submenus of the following menus and adjust the settings accordingly:
- System settings:
- Language:
- German
- Danish
- English
- Spanish
- French
- Italian
- Dutch
- Portuguese
- Swedish
- Turkish
- Russian
- Korean
- Japanese
- Chinese (2 variants, "traditional" and "simplified")

- Day design
- Night design
- Automatic
- Brightness (background illumination of the particular display becomes brighter or darker, graduation in steps of 1 from +5 to -5)

- Display off (visual shutoff of respective display, not a system shutoff)

The "System" menu item with menus and submenus is selected, operated and adjusted on the respective display via the following controls on the remote control:
- "Roller":
- Select respective display

- "4-zone control with OK":
- Move around screen of respective display in 4 directions and select menus or submenus with "OK".

- "Back":
- Move back through menu levels

The signals from the above-specified controls on the remote control are transferred via the IR interface on the remote control to the respective display.
The respective display generates the digital audio and picture signals for the associated screen on the display based on the IR signals received.

Switch off via remote control function sequence
The switch-off signal from the "ON/OFF" control on the remote control and the position of the "Roller" control on the remote control are transmitted to the respective display via the infrared (IR) interface on the remote control.
The respective display forwards the switch-off signal to the DVD player via telematics CAN.
The last application used on the respective menu item of the display is stored in the display.

Automatic switch off by removing transmitter key function sequence (time out time)
When the transmitter key is removed from the EIS [EZS] control unit (N73), a message that the transmitter key was removed is shown on the respective display and the user is asked whether he/ she would like to continue with the application. If the "OK" option is selected using the "4-zone control" with OK on the remote control, it is possible to continue with the application for approx. 30 min (time out time). After approx. 30 min, the rear entertainment system is switched off and the last application used in the respective menu item on the display is stored.
If the user does not answer the question of whether he/she would like to continue with the application with "OK" using the "4-zone control" with OK on the remote control when the transmitter key is removed, the rear entertainment system is switched off and the last application used in the respective menu item of the display is stored.

The DVD player receives the status "Circuit 15C OFF" (transmitter key removed) from the EZS control unit via the interior CAN and forwards the status to the respective display via the telematics CAN.
The message on the respective display is generated by the display.
The control signals from the "4-zone control with OK" on the remote control are transferred via the IR interface on the remote control to the respective display.
The respective display generates the corresponding screen on the display based on the status and control signals received.
