GF32.31-P-5106RT Acceleration Sensor, Component Description

GF32.31-P-5106RT Acceleration sensor, component description
- with CODE (489) Airmatic (air suspension with level adjustment and adaptive damping system ADS)
- up to model year 08

Component Identification:

Location
The left front body lateral acceleration sensor and right front body lateral acceleration sensor are each located in the shock-absorber dome. The right rear body lateral acceleration sensor is located at the right rear on the load compartment floor to the wheelhouse.

Task
The three acceleration sensors are used for measuring the vertical acceleration of the vehicle body. They detect vertical body accelerations and supply signals to the AIRmatic with ADS control unit (N51).

Design
The body acceleration sensors consist of an electronic oscillation module (operating principle same as spring/mass system).

Function
Evaluation of the measured data from the acceleration sensors enables the vertical speed of the vehicle body to be determined. Additional input variables such as steering wheel angle and wheel speeds enable the vehicle speed and the longitudinal and lateral acceleration to be determined. These measured variables enable the AIRmatic with ADS control unit to determine each optimum damper stage. Through evaluation of the stop light signal from the ESP control unit (N47-5) brake applications can be quickly detected and the vehicle's pitch motion reduced in good time by changing the damper setting.
