Steering Column Control Module: Description and Operation

N80 Steering column module

The steering column module is located on the steering column in the vehicle interior.

Tasks
Data exchange with Controller Area Network bus Class C (engine compartment) (CAN C) and local interconnect network (LIN)

Scanning

- Combination switch (S4)
- Turn signal switch (turn signal/one-touch turn signaling)
- Front windshield wipe/touch wiping-/wash/wipe switch
- Rear windshield wipe/wash switch
- High beam/headlamp flasher

Steering column adjustment up/down, in/out switch (S59/1s1) (electrically adjustable steering column (code 441)
- Steering column in/out and up/down

- DIRECT SELECT gear selector switch (S16/13) "operated in vertical direction (drive positions)"
- R - Reverse
- N - Upwards - neutral
- 0 - Park position
- N - Downwards - neutral
- D - Forwards

DIRECT SELECT gear selector switch "operated in axial direction"
- P - Engage park pawl

- Steering angle sensor (N49)
- Multifunction steering wheel (is read in via LIN)
- Left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110)
- Scroll forward/back button (S110s1)
- System selection button (S110s3)
- Fanfare horn system button (S110s5)
- Right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)
- Button + and -, adjustment of specific functions and volume control (S111s1)
- Accept/terminate phone call button (S111s3)
- Fanfare horn system button (S111s5)

The steering column module has the following direct inputs:
- Circuit 30
- Terminal 31
- Airbag ignition circuit 1 (signal input)
- Airbag ignition circuit 2 (signal input)

The steering column module has the following direct outputs:
- Airbag plug (stage 1)
- Airbag plug (stage 2)
