Yaw Rate Sensor: Description and Operation
GF42.45-P-5120RT Yaw rate and lateral acceleration sensor, component description
Component Identification:
Location
The micro mechanical yaw rate sensor (micro mechanical yaw rate sensor AY pickup) is located in the vehicle interior in the floor assembly underneath the front passenger seat.
Task
It detects the rotational speed of the vehicle about the vertical axis, the force of lateral acceleration in the case of cornering or swerving movements, and also the longitudinal acceleration on inclines.
Design
The unit consists of a sensor for detecting the rotational speed about the vertical axis, a sensor for detecting the lateral acceleration and a sensor for detecting the longitudinal acceleration. These sensors are combined into one housing. This reduces installation space considerably.
Function
The micro mechanical sensor system converts the lateral and longitudinal acceleration and the rotational speed about the vehicle's vertical axis into electrically usable signals. The respective vehicle movements result in different displacements of the various types of masses.
Signal changes are detected electronically and passed on to the ESP control unit (N47-5) via a CAN bus (dynamics CAN) which has been specially designed for the sensor.
