Interior - Center Console Lid Won't Unlock

Center Console Storage Compartment Crash Lock Triggered and Cannot be Unlocked

If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles that the center console crash lock for the storage compartment has been triggered and cannot be unlocked, please follow the procedure below to unlock.

1. Remove center console bracket.





a. Unclip center console cover with plastic wedge (Figure 1, callout 2).





b. Remove cup holder divider and rubber insert (Figure 2, callout 3 and 4).





c. Unscrew bolts (Figure 3, callout 5).

d. With the center console armrest open all the way, remove the coin holder piece.





e. Unclip paneling up to center console armrest (Figure 4).

f. Remove center console bracket.





g. Unclip cigarette lighter harness (direction indicated in Figure 5).

2. Reset crash lock





a. Use a plastic wedge to remove stowage compartment upholstery (Figure 6).





b. Locate crash lock (Figure 7).








c. Using special tool W140 589 02 33 00 pull the locking pin up (Figure 8) and move the lock arm to the middle position (Figure 9) using a pointed object (e.g. a screwdriver).

Note:
It may be necessary to push the stowage compartment down to move the locking arm.





Caution!
BE VERY CAREFUL not to pull the locking pin spring out (Figure 10).

d. Once the locking arm is in the correct position, the storage compartment should open normally

3. Install in reverse order.
