Component Identification:

Location
The AIRmatic compressor unit is located on a bracket behind the bumper on the right.

Task
Air pressure for the rear axle bellows required for lifting the vehicle is produced by the AIRmatic compressor unit.

Function
The compressor motor is not actuated directly by the rear axle level control system control unit (N97) but the load current is switched via the air spring compressor relay (F58kG). Furthermore, deflating valve is integrated into the AIRmatic compressor unit, and it is used to lower the vehicle level.

If in the event of a fault the pressure in the AIRmatic compressor unit should be too high, then this is automatically reduced by means of an integrated, mechanical pressure relief valve.
