GF32.22-P-4004RTU AIRmatic Level Adjustment, Function
GF32.22-P-4004RTU AIRmatic level adjustment, function
- with CODE (494) USA version
- with CODE (489) Airmatic (air suspension with level adjustment and adaptive damping system ADS)
- up to model year 08
Component Identification:
The vehicle is raised or lowered depending on the ground speed and setting of the level adjustment switch and Comfort/Sport switch (ADS). There are 3 possible vehicle levels:
^ Raised vehicle level
^ Highway vehicle level
^ High speed vehicle level
The switch position operated by the driver also remains stored after "ignition OFF" until it is changed again manually or is canceled due to exceeding a certain speed threshold or time threshold.
Level adjustment switch actuated
Function requirements
^ Engine running
^ The vehicle is in the highway level (0 mm).
Function:
^ Shortly after actuating the level adjustment switch the vehicle is moved to the raised vehicle level (+50 mm).
Display in the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1): "Vehicle rising", the LED in the level adjustment switch flashes on and off during the adjusting procedure and lights when at the raised level.
^ At a speed of v > 40 km/h or 25 mph the "Raise level" driver command is deleted and the vehicle lowered to highway level (0 mm).
Display in the multifunction display of the instrument cluster: "Level selection canceled".
^ At a speed of v > 96 km/h or 60 mph for longer than t = 20 s or if the speed threshold v = 112 km/h or 70 mph is exceeded the highway level is canceled and the vehicle automatically lowered to high-speed level (-20 mm).
Display in the multifunction display of the instrument cluster: "Level selection canceled".
^ At v > 112 km/h or 70 mph automatic lowering of the vehicle level to the high-speed level (-20 mm).
^ At v < 64 km/h or 40 mph reset to highway level (0 mm).
If v = 40 km/h or 25 mph is not exceeded, the vehicle remains in the "Raised level" until it is lowered to the highway level again by pressing the level adjustment switch.
Level adjustment switch not actuated
Function requirements:
^ Engine running
^ The vehicle is in the highway level (0 mm).
Function:
^ At v > 96 km/h or 60 mph for longer than t = 20 s or if the speed threshold v = 112 km/h or 70 miles is exceeded automatic lowering of vehicle level to high-speed level (-20 mm).
^ At v < 64 km/h or 40 mph automatic reset to highway level (0 mm).
The high speed level cannot be manually selected, this is only selected upon reaching the vehicle velocity threshold.
Trailer operation
Function requirements
^ Engine running
^ Trailer mode detected by AIRmatic with ADS control unit (N51).
Function
A trailer mode has been detected and this in turn influences the AIRmatic with ADS system as follows:
1. Vehicle runs at highway level only.
2. High speed level no longer accessible.
3. If the driver fails to lower the vehicle manually, the vehicle is automatically lowered as from 8 km/h to the highway level.
The trailer can only be decoupled from the vehicle when the AIRmatic with ADS control unit is active. This is not necessary for a trailer with low tongue weight capacity.
Comfort/Sport switch (ADS)
The driver can use the Comfort/Sport switch (ADS) to program the damping stage:
1. "AUTO" Skyhook mode
2. "SPORT" Firm damping
3. "COMFORT" Soft damping
