AR15.40-P-5011GH Check Charging Current of Generator

Test Charge Current Of Generator

Inspect
1 Check regulation voltage of generator
2 Connect multimeter (003) with DC clip-on probe (0651 according to connection diagram
- Multimeter: See Commercially Available Tools below.

3 Connect volt-ampere tester with load resistor (079) according to connection diagram
- Volt-ampere tester: See Commercially Available Tools below.

Danger:
- Risk of accident. Accidents may result if the vehicle starts off unintentionally with the engine running. Risk of injury as working around the engine during start-up or while running may result in contusions and burns
- Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
- Do not grasp hot or rotating parts.

4 Start engine
5 Check charging current

NOTE: Connect the battery (G1) to the volt/ampere tester with integrated load resistor (079).

- Change load resistance until the maximum charging current is reached. The regulating voltage must not fall below 12.7 volts.
- See Test values for generator below.

- Charging current below specified value:
1. Check alternator diodes.
2. Replace alternator (if diodes are defective).

6 Switch off engine
7 Disconnect multimeter (003) with DC clip-on probe (065)
8 Disconnect volt / ampere tester with load resistor (079)
