GF91.60-P-4002-02GI Driver/Front Passenger Emergency Tensioning Retractor, Function

GF91.60-P-4002-02GI Driver/Front Passenger Emergency Tensioning Retractor, Function
- as of 1.12.99

Function
The front seat belts are equipped with pyrotechnical emergency tensioning retractors improving the protective function of the seat belts in the event of a crash (front and rear end collisions). A crash event is evaluated and, if applicable, the driver ETR squib (R12/1) and front passenger ETR squib (R12/2) are actuated in the supplemental restraint systems control module (N2/7).

The driver and passenger emergency tensioning retractors are additionally equipped with a belt force limitation feature. In the event of a crash the belt force limitation feature reduces the force acting on the passenger without affecting the protective effect of the belt.

It is only possible to trigger the emergency tensioning retractors. once The mechanical protective function of the belt is maintained in the event of a second crash. Without tensioning and force limitation the reel shaft is locked mechanically by the locking system so that it takes up the entire force of the belt.

In the event of a crash the driver and passenger emergency tensioning retractors are only activated when the corresponding seat belts are actually buckled. The switching states of the left front seat belt buckle/ belt lock switch (S68/7) and the right front seat belt buckle/belt lock switch (S68/8) are checked directly by the supplemental restraint systems control module (N2/7).
