Transfer Case Actuator: Service and Repair



Remove/Install Transfer Case Actuator Motor






Remove
1 Remove vibration damper from transfer case

NOTE: Only Model 163.157.

2 Remove heat shield in front of the transfer case (VG) adjusting unit

NOTE: Only model 163.157/175.

3 Disconnect connector (1) on the transfer case (VG) adjusting unit (A55)
4 Unscrew transfer case (VG) (ASS) adjusting unit from transfer case
5 Remove transfer case (VG) adjusting unit (A55)

Install
6 Apply sealing compound to the sealing surface of the actuator motor

NOTE: Remove old sealing compound from transfer case

7 Mount transfer case (VG) adjusting unit (A55) carefully on shaft
8 Fit bolts (3) of the transfer case adjusting unit (VG) (A55) as well as bolt (4) and nut (5) of the bracket but do not tighten

NOTE: If the actuator motor is replaced, the bracket (2) of the connector should be installed on the new transfer case (VG) adjusting unit

9 Tighten the bolts (3) of the transfer case (VG) adjusting unit (A55), then tighten the bolt (4) of the bracket
10 Tighten nuts (5) on the bracket
11 Insert plug in the wiring harness of the transfer case adjusting unit
12 Install heat shield in front of the transfer case (VG) adjusting unit

NOTE: Only model 163.157/175.

13 Install vibration damper on transfer case

NOTE: Only Model 163.157.
