Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair



Remove and installing catalytic converter or front exhaust system


Illustrated On M112:






1 Lift vehicle at front axle carrier with pit lift
2 Remove front springs
3 Separate plug connections of and diagnosis sensors
4 Loosen exhaust clamps from rear exhaust system

NOTE: Exhaust clamps are welded on.

5 Disconnect front exhaust system from rear exhaust system
6 Unscrew nuts (11/2) on support.

NOTE: Replace nuts.

7 Remove fender liner in front fender on both sides

NOTE: Only 163.172/175.

8 Unscrew screws (11/1) at flange connection of front exhaust system/exhaust manifold.

NOTE: If bolts are sluggish or thread is damaged, Replace rivet nuts in exhaust manifold.

9 Lift out three way catalytic converters and front exhaust system

NOTE: Ensure, that when removing and installing rear three way catalytic converter (158) and front three way catalytic converter (158/1), the shields at the vehicle underbody are not damaged.

10 Install in the reverse order.

NOTE: Installation: Install three way catalytic converters free of tension.
